Agro Tourism in Nepal is an elite approach to attracting tourists. Nepal is an agricultural country. More than 66% of its total population is directly involved in agriculture. The land structure of Nepal is diverse and it possesses diverse temperatures and climate in all different regions. Due to this, varieties of crops and vegetation can be grown in the soil of Nepal. But the only main reason that lacks these people behind is the traditional methods of farming and lack of agricultural education. Keeping this aside Agro tourism is very famous in Nepal, as Nepal is known as a tourism country all over the world.
The tourism industry is the fastest developing financial sector in Nepal due to its fantastic natural beauty, unique and amazing cultures and traditions. So simply we can portray Agro tourism as the combination of agriculture and tourism.
Agro Tourism is the best way of attracting tourists and visitors in areas where agriculture is the main aspect. Agrotourism involves a variety of activities such as Vegetable farming, organic farming, poultry farming, visiting and overnight stay at the farm and many more. Nepal celebrates ‘Ropai Jatra’ that is a Rice Planting Festival every year on Ashadh 15 (June 29).
The major aim of this article is to provide you the information about Phulkharka tourism and how Agro tourism is involved in Phulkharka. Phulkharka is a small and beautiful village, located about 135km northwest of Kathmandu. It lies in the northern part of Dhading district at an elevation of 3500 meters. Phulkharka is located at the foothills of Ganesh Himal and Mount Manaslu.
Phulkharka means ‘Flower Garden’. The Phulkharka village is occupied by diverse ethnic groups and races of people like Newar, Brahmin, Chhetri, Gurung, Magar, Damai, Kami, etc. You can see the unspoiled and authentic Nepalese lifestyle in this village.
This village lies on the border of Ganesh Himal and Manaslu so they have a mixed-race of Hindu and Buddhist communities. You can see awesome panoramic views of Ganesh Himal and other attractive natural scenes as well.
Agro Tourism, especially in Phulkharka village, is all about conventional rice farming. It begins in June/July and keeps going till October. People in this village are very friendly and cooperative.
During your trek to Phulkharka, you will be staying in a homestay lodge in one of the build-up houses. They are selected with their hygienic adaptation in daily life. You will be spending a few days sightseeing.
This village was destroyed in the 2015 earthquake. Therefore, the Phulkharka Earthquake Village Trek 2016 has been introduced with the aim of supporting the national cause of Nepal known as ‘Nepal Earthquake- A change to rebuild’.
Most researches show that Nepal is better lagging behind in rice production as compared to other leading rice-producing countries. It is just 3 tons/hectare. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and introduce new scientific methods and technologies for agriculture in Nepal.

He was ready with his plan A,B, ...etc to make sure that we can continue on with our journey and well taken care off. We are all happy that we made it. We’ve done many hikes around the world from Kilimanjaro , Patagonia. Choqouquiro route to Machu Picchu. This one by far was the most scenic and rewarding. It was not easy.... read more You had to be physically fit and mentally tough, but totally worth it. I would highly recommend the Himalayan adventure and trek company to manage your itinerary. They were fantastic!!
Disappointed - I am posting this very late but I have just come across my previous communication with the company which reminded me that I had forgotten to review. I did so... read more much research before our trip, we travel a lot and understand the importance of choosing the right company to make the experience perfect but also to ensure that the company support the local community. Kisan and the company had such good reviews and we're also personally recommended by a friend that we chose them. Right up until the day before the trip Kisan said that he would be our guide, we looked forward to learning so much from him as such an experienced guide. At the last minute he was unable to take us and we were sent with another guide. The guide we were sent instead was very nice, he was pleasant and helpful but it quickly became clear that he lacked the confidence and experience to bring the trip alive for us. We saw other guides chatting with their clients and pointing out interesting things. Our guide spent most of the time just chatting in Nepali with the porter and playing music on their phones, he often ignored us for hours at a time. We tried to engage him in conversation, he would answer our questions but then go back to chatting with the porter. We felt that we missed out on learning about Nepali culture and nature. We wanted to hear about the locals who greeted us and find out the history behind the villages we were passing through,we know how a good guide makes a trip. We suspected that he was more used to being a second guide or a porter rather than the main guide. When we got back to Kathmandu this was confirmed by a quick check on TripAdvisor in which our guide was mentioned several times as a secondary guide or porter but never as the main guide. I challenged this with the company, I didn't expect anything and knew it wouldn't change anything but hoped they would perhaps just apologise and learn from my feedback. Messages went back and forth in which I was told he was a qualified guide, I asked several times how much experience he'd had but the question was avoided. This reaction was really disappointing, after a long exchange of messages I got some kind of apology but it was really too late and left a sour taste to be honest. I'm sure that with one of the more experienced guides we would have had a different experience, as most other customers have, but we can only go on our experience. These types of holidays are once in a lifetime and I'm afraid that we felt that ours was a bit of a missed opportunity to be blown away by the beauty and culture.
The Best experience of my life - Unforgetable experience! the landscapes of the trekking are amazing. The great guide, attentive at all times to any unforeseen event. I will repeat any trekking with the same guide because I am left wanting more.
