Gorilla Trekking is the latest trekking destination in Nepal that has been introduced to encounter the wild gorillas. It also aims at having an amusing view of the natural beauty of Nepal as mountains and floras and faunas. It truly is one of the once-in-a-lifetime experience in the traveler’s life.
The fact that gorillas as a species are on the brink of extinction and treks are a highly restricted activity, encountering wild gorillas is considered a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience.
We’re proud to support trekking tourism that contributes directly to protecting rainforest habitats and conserving both mountain gorillas and western lowland gorillas.
Gorilla trek route provides us an opportunity to meet the inhabitants who have not yet been affected by commercialization. You can see a lot of ethnicities such as Brahmin, Kshetri, Dalit, Gurung, Magar, Newar and Thakuri, that enrich the route. This trek offers us a wide variety of multi-ethnic cultures, historical sentiments of war and local cultivation in terrain green valley.
This trekking is also a camping trek as there are no hotels available in this trail for accommodation. Yet the scenic beauty of this region is unmatched.
This trekking also provides you an opportunity to witness the effect of Maoist civil wars and its effect in the Rukum and Rolpa district of Nepal. The route covers the major war effected area of the western region of Nepal which these days are being promoted as a newly opened trekking trail.
The trek also provides you information regarding how the gorillas operated and fought during the conflict. The affected area is very peaceful nowadays offering unique features to explore on.
For this trek, you need to be fairly fit, in a good health and well equipped for the humid, muddy conditions of a rainforest hike. Gorillas are susceptible to human illnesses but don’t have our immunities, which means a common cold can be deadly to a whole family of gorillas. Thus you won’t be permitted to trek in case you are unwell.
The rainforest can be a challenging environment even during the summer season. It’s humid, wet and muddy with some steep slopes, plenty of insects and thick vegetation. But it will be all worth it once you reach your main destination.
You will quietly approach the gorillas once you find them and settle down to observe them. You’ll spend between 40 minutes and an hour with the gorillas, watching the adults forage and groom each other while the babies tumble and play.
You’ll be under the watchful gaze of the great silverback patriarch, whose soft brown eyes constantly sweep over his family protectively. Witnessing gorillas express typically human gestures and emotions is a truly profound experience and one of the reasons that this trekking is such a life-changing encounter.
Notes: Costs are prone to change in itinerary. So costs will be recalculated if the trekking days get modified.

Very refreshed trek after COVID-19 - This trip is the best trek i have ever done. The trekking guide was very helpful and informative. He gave us brief description about the location its speciality.I fully enjoyed it... read more and would like to highly recommend this trip and specially this company.
Disappointed - I am posting this very late but I have just come across my previous communication with the company which reminded me that I had forgotten to review. I did so... read more much research before our trip, we travel a lot and understand the importance of choosing the right company to make the experience perfect but also to ensure that the company support the local community. Kisan and the company had such good reviews and we're also personally recommended by a friend that we chose them. Right up until the day before the trip Kisan said that he would be our guide, we looked forward to learning so much from him as such an experienced guide. At the last minute he was unable to take us and we were sent with another guide. The guide we were sent instead was very nice, he was pleasant and helpful but it quickly became clear that he lacked the confidence and experience to bring the trip alive for us. We saw other guides chatting with their clients and pointing out interesting things. Our guide spent most of the time just chatting in Nepali with the porter and playing music on their phones, he often ignored us for hours at a time. We tried to engage him in conversation, he would answer our questions but then go back to chatting with the porter. We felt that we missed out on learning about Nepali culture and nature. We wanted to hear about the locals who greeted us and find out the history behind the villages we were passing through,we know how a good guide makes a trip. We suspected that he was more used to being a second guide or a porter rather than the main guide. When we got back to Kathmandu this was confirmed by a quick check on TripAdvisor in which our guide was mentioned several times as a secondary guide or porter but never as the main guide. I challenged this with the company, I didn't expect anything and knew it wouldn't change anything but hoped they would perhaps just apologise and learn from my feedback. Messages went back and forth in which I was told he was a qualified guide, I asked several times how much experience he'd had but the question was avoided. This reaction was really disappointing, after a long exchange of messages I got some kind of apology but it was really too late and left a sour taste to be honest. I'm sure that with one of the more experienced guides we would have had a different experience, as most other customers have, but we can only go on our experience. These types of holidays are once in a lifetime and I'm afraid that we felt that ours was a bit of a missed opportunity to be blown away by the beauty and culture.
